Read the release, not just the offer amount
Settlement paperwork may resolve claims permanently. Understand which people, companies, injuries, and future claims the release covers before signing.
Account for the financial picture
Medical bills, reimbursement claims, case expenses, attorney fees, and other obligations can affect the net amount. Ask for a clear explanation of how the final distribution is expected to work.
Consider whether treatment is still developing
If medical care is ongoing, future needs may be uncertain. This is one reason early offers deserve careful review rather than automatic acceptance.
Confirm non-money terms
Some agreements include confidentiality, indemnity, lien responsibilities, or timing provisions. Read the entire document and ask questions about language you do not understand.
Do not rely on generalized settlement calculators
Case value depends on evidence, liability, damages, insurance, procedure, and many other facts. A formula from another case cannot tell you what is appropriate for yours.
